Democracy and History

Democracy, as we are part of the democratic country we are well aware what democracy means. I believe that democracy means Govt for the people, By the pople and of the people. Lets have a look at how a democratic country operate say, election will be conducted and people will cast vote to their favourite candidate and the candidate who gains more number of vote wins the election and will have the power.

I was going through the great indian epic mahabharatha and the war that took place at the end of dwapara yuga and the people involved in it and suddenly a question araised in my mind, if we think that democracy is selecting the candidate who is favoured by most of the people like gaining more number of votes is said to be democratic, In the war of mahabaratha we find that Duryodhana had 11 akshauhini of troops supporting him and Yudisthira has 7 akshauhini of troops supporting him, if we apply the rule of democracy over there then it is obvious that Duryodhana wins democratically but as we read mahabaratha we feel that the virtue is with yudistira and almost all of us want yudistira to win and duryodhana to loose.

Does this mean that people who opted for yudistira to win are against democracy?? or is there any flaw in the way of the democracy we follow. If we put forward the question in the general way, Is whatever we say as democracy and whatever methods we follow as democracy is correct ??? what if more people prefer bad things over good then as per our democratic rule bad things win and more bad things will be happening to people

Is there a way now to change the decision knowing that we have made wrong in this deocratic country?? I guess not. if we have selected a candidate we have to live with him until his tenure of 5 years complete and as people started getting used to it they are forgetting the thoughts they initially had about the candidate and mesmarised by the good work he does at the time of elctions nearing and we end up in selecting based on who does good things at the time of elections. Dont you realise that there is something wrong going on over here. Even if somone points out and says this we being pround of our decision and do not want to be pointed out by others end up in defending our decision and rejecting the advice given by the person who wishes to do good to all.

There could be many such cases and hidden truths which we might have missed out from protecting but still we fight and stand for what we project to outside world though internally we realise it is not the right one. How funny we are.

In the epic mahabaratha before the start of the war Yudistira offered the chance to kuru army that whoever feels that truth and morality is on the side of pandavas can come and join his army and none save yuyutsu have changed sides. Though others have their own reason for fighting on behalf of kuru army when we looked at overall the persons benefitted by king yudistira is less than the persons benefitted by king duryodhana.

We say that Indians are more traditional and will have their way followed from their ancesters and they are cultured and they protect their culture for times and yes they are doing it but with this comparision i would say they are protecting it without knowing what exactly have to be protected and if someone points out the truth we fight for the wrong and false course being afraid of what it leads to.

NOTE: This is just my blind opinion and not intended to hurt or pointout anyone in present and past worlds. Appreciate your understanding
